Day 1 Reflection

 Technology is just a tool.

Many seasoned educators have moved away from incorporating technology in their classrooms. Technology is not to replace teaching but to be used as an aid in our teaching. A takeaway from today’s session was the use of blogs as an educational technology tool. I would use it to archive my classroom's lessons and materials for students to access, since it's dated. This could also be used by students when writing their assignments.

Another takeaway from this was that the use of educational technology can help students develop their collaboration skills. The video mentioned that we can teach our students to collaborate and give and receive feedback/criticism respectfully. Sometimes, students are not aware of online etiquette, especially when present online through their social media apps.

Challenges we face in schools when incorporating educational technology include misuse of funds and technology devices. Many schools have received new technology devices, but no training or software has been provided. So teachers have to be resourceful and creative, and may sometimes spend their own money to fully utilize the new device.

  1. I like that you mentioned online etiquette. Digital misbehavior leads to real-world consequences and it is great that you pointed this out. Awesome post.

  3. I agree. Teachers are getting new devices but are not fully trained on how to use them. Personally, I still do not know the full power of how to use a promethean board.
