DAY 1: Reflection

Although I have already made a blog in a similar course, it's always nice to meet a new group of people and come up with a new topic and a new blog. The new topic my group came up with is a nice one that I can't wait to share once it's complete. Dr. Rivera really enjoys making these blogs and I find that they're useful in archiving thoughts and pictures, especially the class photos! One day I decided to "Google" my maiden name and an old blog of a UOG class I took with her popped up from more than 15 years ago. Wow!

Also, in reflecting about technology in the classroom with my students, I find that my school in particular really utilizes and integrates technology in each of their classes. I use it to present my lessons as well as have my students read books within their lexile levels on the website, EPIC Books. I try my best to make it accessible to my students. Also, AI! I never thought of using it to help me in my classroom but it does make things easier when I remember to use it to create tests and quizzes.

To conclude my thoughts, I can't imagine a class where technology isn't present. I feel like this is the direction where our learning is heading, but we need to teach it's value and importance in the classroom as a tool, not just something to play games and watch youtube videos on.

  1. Si Yu’os Ma’ase’, Grace, for sharing your reflections. I always enjoy seeing the creativity and collaboration that emerge when students work together on a blog. It is especially rewarding to hear that a blog that was created over 15 years ago is still accessible and serves as a lasting record of your learning journey. That is one of the greatest strengths of digital publishing. It preserves our stories, experiences, and accomplishments for future reflection.

I also appreciate your thoughtful observations about technology in the classroom. It is encouraging to hear how you are using tools such as EPIC Books to support differentiated instruction and help students access texts at appropriate reading levels. Your point about AI is especially important; when used thoughtfully, it can be a valuable tool for enhancing instruction, creating resources, and supporting student learning. As educators, our responsibility is to help students understand that technology is not simply for entertainment, but a powerful tool for learning, creativity, communication, and problem-solving. Well done on embracing these opportunities while maintaining a strong focus on meaningful learning experiences for your students.

  2. Thank you for sharing your "cultural foods" blog with us. I absolutely love all of it! Now I know that, for sure, I need to include more technology into all my lessons!

  3. Playing games and watching YouTube videos is exactly what my three kids usually use as the reason to access the laptops at home. I often refuse during the school week because I feel that they are overly exposed to the laptop at school. They always say that at school they only use the laptops for 'education'; 'we check for information, we do our IXL and Google classroom,' 'we don't YouTube'. I always rationale with them that there is no way they have enough attention span to use the laptop for only 'education' and I am pretty sure they open the YouTube page when the teacher is busy assisting other students. They argue that they don't really YouTube, the PUBG and COD; still the same - games if not YouTube.

I agree with you the importance of technology in our lessons. It is the wave of the future. Teachers need to always update themselves to bring the best in the classroom.
